Position Summary

The Sports Coordinator develops and leads athletic and recreational programming that promotes healthy lifestyles, cultural pride, teamwork, and personal growth. This position incorporates both contemporary sports and Ojibwe traditional games while helping youth develop confidence, leadership skills, sportsmanship, and strong connections to their culture and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise sports, recreation, fitness, and culturally aligned physical activities
  • Incorporate Ojibwe teachings, traditional games, and cultural values into youth programming
  • Develop skill-building activities that promote teamwork, physical fitness, leadership, and confidence
  • Mentor yoth and encourage respect, responsibility, perseverance, and community pride
  • Recruit and support volunteers, youth mentors, and assistant coaches
  • Coordinate tournaments, special events, and community celebrations
  • Maintain equipment, attendance records, participation data, and outcome reporting
  • Support Club policies, child protection standards, and Youth Development Professional activities as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field preferred
  • Experience coaching, leading sports programs, or working with youth
  • Knowledge of contemporary sports as well as Ojibwe traditional games and teachings
  • Strong mentoring, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, and community members
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of background checks
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred
