WHEAP - WISCONSIN HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) and Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) are programs designed to provide some assistance to households with the heating and electric bills. It is a one-time benefit payment for each heating season, October 1 through May 15.

This benefit is intended to help pay a portion of the heating and electric costs and is not intended to pay for the entire cost of the heating bill. The benefit amount is based on the household size, income level, and household heating costs.

You may also be qualified for crisis assistance and emergency furnace repair/replacement and weatherization services.

DOCUMENTATION NEEDED

  • Current gas, electric, oil, or utility bills

  • All income in the household (income from month prior to month applying)

  • Photo ID

  • Social Security Number and dates of birth (for everyone in household, mandatory for first time applicants)
