LCO FOOD DISTRIBUTION

We, the Anishinabeg, the people of Odaawaa-Zaaga’iganiing, the Lac Courte Oreilles Band, will sustain our heritage, preserving our past, strengthening our present, and embracing our future. We will defend our inherent sovereign rights and safeguard Mother Earth. We will provide for the educational, health, social welfare, and economic stability of the present and future generations.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The LCO Food Distribution Program (LCOFDP) offers food in lieu of Food Stamps. LCOFDP started operations in 1980 with funding from the Food and Nutrition Service of USDA. It is one of over 100 Distribution Sites operating on Indian Reservations and Communities throughout the United States.  In an attempt to overcome the problems of hunger on the Reservations by providing eligible households with a well-balanced, nutritious monthly food package, a new family nutritious program was developed.

We believe in providing a nutritious food package for eligible households, and nutrition education to improve the quality of life on LCO. Also, our vision is to eliminate hunger in LCO; to improve / cure prevalent diseases through proper nutrition and exercise.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Anyone living within LCO Reservation boundaries and "Indian households" living outside the Reservation but in the rural areas of Sawyer, Rusk, Bayfield, and Washburn County.

  • Net income limits are revised annually to reflect the cost of living changes.

  • Eligibility is determined by using 80% of gross earned income or 100% of gross unearned income.
