Position Summary

The Native American Studies Faculty Director provides instructional and administrative leadership for the Native American Studies program. This position oversees curriculum development, faculty support, student recruitment, academic planning, and program operations while teaching university-level coursework and promoting the University’s mission of advancing Ojibwe culture, language, and history.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Native American Studies program
  • Supervise faculty and adjunct instructors while supporting program quality and growth
  • Teach courses and ensure curriculum aligns with program goals and learning outcomes
  • Recruit students and promote the program through community outreach and presentations
  • Participate in curriculum review, development of new courses, and academic planning initiatives
  • Advise students and support student success and retention efforts
  • Coordinate scheduling, program operations, committee work, and cultural activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in the area of instruction; or a bachelor’s degree with certified Tribal expertise in the content area
  • Experience teaching in a post-secondary educational setting
  • Knowledge of curriculum development, program administration, and student advising
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations and Tribal communities
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies and higher education practices
