Fire Chief
*Tribal preference will apply to qualified applicants in accordance with the Lac Courte Oreilles Policies & Procedures Manual, consistent with federal Indian preference requirements.
The Fire Chief provides leadership and oversight for all Fire Department operations, personnel, emergency response services, and fire prevention activities. This position works closely with the Tribal Governing Board to ensure the department remains effective, responsive, and prepared to meet community safety needs.
- Lead and oversee all Fire Department operations, personnel, and programs
- Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, amd safety initiatives
- Manage budgets, equipment purchases, inventory, and resource planning
- Coordinate fire protection and emergency response activities with local agencies
- Conduct facility inspections and support fire safety compliance efforts
- Supervise recruitment, training, and development of department personnel
- Prepare reports and provide recommendations to Tribal leadership
- Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration, Management, Business, or related field
- Five (5) years of progressvely responsible fire service leadership experience
- Grant writing experience required
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
- Strong leadership, budgeting, planning, and communication skills
- Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening
