Position Summary

The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children from birth through age twelve. This position assists with daily classroom activities, child supervision, lesson implementation, and record-keeping while helping children reach individual and classroom learning goals. The Assistant Teacher works closely wtih staff, families, and community partners to support quality early childhood education services

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Teacher with planning and implementing age-appropriate educational activities and lessons
  • Support implementation of a comprehensive child development program using Creative Curriculum standards
  • Assist with maintaining child records, observations and required documentation
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities and assist with daily routines
  • Encourage family participation and maintain positive communication with parents and caregivers
  • Participate in staff meetings, training opportunities, and professional development activities
  • Work collaboratively  with staff to identify and support the individual needs of children

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age of older
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must be willing to obtain CDA Certification upon hire
  • Current Pediatric CPR, First Aid, and SBS/SIDS certifications required
  • Experience working with preschool-aged children and knowledge of age-appropriate development and safety practices
  • Strong communication, organizational, and basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds throughout the workday
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and physical health examination
