Associate Judge / Pro Tempore Judge
*Tribal preference will apply to qualified applicants in accordance with the Lac Courte Oreilles Policies & Procedures Manual, consistent with federal Indian preference requirements.
The Associate Judge/Pro Pempore Judge hears and decides matters within jurisdiction of the LCO Tribal Court. This position helps uphold Tribal sovereighty, administer justice, and preside over cases assigned by Chief Judge.
- Preside over court proceedings and hearings
- Issue legal opinions and judicial decisions
- Conduct legal research and review applicable laws
- Maintain courtroom decorum and impartiality
- Ensure compliance with Tribal laws, policies, and procedures
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- Active State Bar membership in good standing
- Minimum five (5) years of legal experience
- Knowledge of Tribal law and Federal Indian Law
- Strong communication, decision-making, and organizational skills
