Vocational Education Teacher (Automotive Emphasis)
*Tribal preference will apply to qualified applicants in accordance with the Lac Courte Oreilles Policies & Procedures Manual, consistent with federal Indian preference requirements.
The Vocational Education Teacher provides hands-on instruction to middle and high school students in automotive technology and related vocational trades. This position helps students develop technical skills, workplace readiness, problem-solving abilities, and an understanding of industry standards while incorporating Ojibwe culture and values into classroom instruction.
- Teach vocational and technical education courses with an emphasis on automotive technology and related trades
- Develop student knowledge of industry practices, safety standards, and professional workplace expectations
- Guide students in project selection and hands-on learning experiences
- Maintain attendance, grades, reports, and other required student records
- Ensure safe operation of shop equipment, tools, and classroom resources
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and achievement
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, school events, assemblies, powwows, and graduation activities
- Certified Secondary Education and/or Vocational Technical Education instructor
- Knowledge of automotive mechanics, power mechanics, drafting, woodworking, welding, electronics, and shop equipment
- Willingness to continue education and obtain appropriate secondary education certification if neededExperience working with or teaching American Indian youth preferred
- Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
- Must support the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the school
