Youth Development Professional (YDP)

The Youth Development Professional (YDP) helps create a safe, culturally grounded, and supportive environment for youth ages 6-18. This position combines positive youth development practices with Ojibwe teachings, Tribal values, and community traditions to help youth build confidence, leadership skills, academic success, and cultural pride. The YDP serves as a mentor, role model, and program facilitator whild supporting the Seven Grandfather Teachings and encouraging youth to develop respect for themselves, their families, and their community.
- Plan and lead youth programs that support academic success, leadership development, wellness, and cultural enrichment
- Incorporate Ojibwe language, traditions, storytelling, cultural arts, an seasonal teachings into activities when appropriate
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for all youth through positive youth development and trauma-informed practices
- Build meaningful relationships with youth and families while serving as a positive role model and mentor
- Support homework assistance, leadership development, job readiness, and career exploration activities
- Collaborate with Elders, community partners, schools, Tribal departments, and local organizations
- Track attendance, participation, program outcomes, and grant-related documentation
- Participate in trainings, community events, cultural activities, and other Club initiatives
- High school diploma or GED
- Experience working with youth
- Respect for and understanding of Native American culture and community values
- Ability to build positive relationships with youth and families
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to pass a background check
- CPR/First Aid certification, Ojibwe language knowledge, trauma-informed care training, and a valid driver’s license are preferred
