Position Summary

The Vocational Education Teacher provides hands-on instruction to middle and high school students in automotive technology and related vocational trades. This position helps students develop technical skills, workplace readiness, problem-solving abilities, and an understanding of industry standards while incorporating Ojibwe culture and values into classroom instruction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach vocational and technical education courses with an emphasis on automotive technology and related trades
  • Develop student knowledge of industry practices, safety standards, and professional workplace expectations
  • Guide students in project selection and hands-on learning experiences
  • Maintain attendance, grades, reports, and other required student records
  • Ensure safe operation of shop equipment, tools, and classroom resources
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress and achievement
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, school events, assemblies, powwows, and graduation activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certified Secondary Education and/or Vocational Technical Education instructor
  • Knowledge of automotive mechanics, power mechanics, drafting, woodworking, welding, electronics, and shop equipment
  • Willingness to continue education and obtain appropriate secondary education certification if neededExperience working with or teaching American Indian youth preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and classroom management skills
  • Must support the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the school
