Attorney General/Legal Support Specialist

*Tribal preference will apply to qualified applicants in accordance with the Lac Courte Oreilles Policies & Procedures Manual, consistent with federal Indian preference requirements.

Position Summary

The Legal Intern provides administrative, clerical, and legal support to the LCO Office of the Attorney General. This position offers law students practical experience working on legal projects, file management, research support, and office operations while assisting attorneys, and legal support staff with a variety of assignments. The position may be performed in-office or remotely, depending on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with legal projects, research, and assignments as directed by the Attorney General or Legal Support Specialist
  • Maintain, organize, file, and manage legal records and case documents
  • Scan, upload, and organize electronic files and records
  • Create and maintain physical and electronic case files
  • Provide clerical and administrative support to attorneys and legal staff
  • Sort, route, and process incoming correspondence legal documents
  • Assist with office operations while ensuring compliance with Tribal policies and confidentiality requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and currently enrolled in law school
  • Legal, administrative, or document management experience preferred but not required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PDF applications
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and problem solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
  • Strong work ethic, reliable attendance, and willingness to learn
  • May be subject to a background investigation and pre-employment drug screening
