We, the Anishinabeg, the people of Odaawaa-Zaaga’iganiing, the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribe, will sustain our heritage, preserving our past, strengthening our present, and embracing our future. We will defend our inherent sovereign rights and safeguard Mother Earth. We will provide for the educational, health, social welfare, and economic stability of the present and future generations.

Housing Improvement Program

The Housing Improvement Program (HIP) is a home repair, renovation, replacement and new housing grant program administered by the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) and federally-recognized Indian tribes.

With the Tribe’s BIA ARPA HIP allocation, we will build three (3) small single bedroom homes this summer. Applications are available at the Tribal Office and will be taken from eligible single adult applicants only.

Eligibility

  • Be an enrolled member of a Federally recognized American Indian tribe or be an Alaskan Native.
  • Live in an approved tribal service area.
  • Have present housing that is substandard as defined by the regulations.
  • Have no other resource for housing assistance.
  • Have not received assistance after October 1, 1986 for repairs and renovation, replacement or housing or down payment assistance.
  • Have not acquired your present housing through a federally sponsored housing program that includes such housing assistance.

Applications are ranked according to the number of points an applicant receives on the priority calculations form. Factors that are determined are: total annual household income, aged persons, disabled persons, and dependent children.

Documents Requested

  1. Completed BIA Form 6407 Application along with Privacy Act Statement and Authorization to Release Information Statement
  2. Proof of Tribal Affiliation.
  3. Income from all permanent household members.
  4. Copy of annual trust income statement for IIM monies.
  5. Proof of Ownership of residence and land.
  6. Proof of Disability.
  7. Letter of denial – other housing assistance programs
