In 2006, the Tribal Governing Board established the Education Scholarship Fund (ESF) to provide additional educational resources for enrolled Lac Courte Oreilles members.
The ESF is funded solely through donations received in connection with the Annual LCO Education Golf Classic.
These proceeds are available to fund education scholarships in the amount of $1,000.00 per recipient.
To be considered for a scholarship, a person must meet the following eligibility criteria and apply as described below:
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be an enrolled member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Bnd of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians; and
- Must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university; or a technical or vocational school or vocational school or program working rowards an undergraduate or post-graduate degree; or certification or license.
Scholarship Awards:
- Scholarships recipients will be notified by August 28, 2026. Scholarship funding will be sent directly to the applicant's choice of education institution as indicated on the personal letter of application no later than September 20, 2026. Scholarship funding is available for the fall semester.
Application Deadline:
- Scholarship application materials must be submitted by : July 31, 2026.
Individuals must follow the application process below: (There is no application form to complete.)
- 1. Must submit an essay consisting of at least 300 words, which describe the following:
- Community involvement and volunteerism
- Career goals
- Planned contribution to Native Americans
- Reasons you should receive a scholarship
- Also include a cover letter with the following:
- a. Full name; mailing address; telephone number;
- b. Name and mailing address of college or university; or technical or vocational school or program which the applicant is currently attending or plans rto attend; and
- 2. Must submit Proof of Enrollment in the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians (photocopy of enrollment card or letter from Enrollment Department.
- 3. Must submit proof of acceptance or enrollment into a college or university, or technical or vocational school or program.
