The Lac Courte Oreilles (LCO) Tribal Nations Opioid Abatement Efforts (TNOAE) program has partnered with the White Bison Wellbriety Movement to bring the Warrior Down training program to the LCO Community.

The phrase “Warrior Down” signifies a warrior who has been wounded or incapacitated and requires help. The program establishes a dedicated response team that supports individuals in their recovery journey, ensuring they have access to the resources and community connections necessary to continue their healing process.

Warrior Down Facilitator, Mateo Littlebird, who is Pueblo of Laguna/Pueblo of Kewa draws inspiration from his time working in the non-profit sector where he found inspiration in the stories of individuals who had lost everything and fought their way back to becoming a person they never dreamed of. These experiences drive his desire to bring equality of opportunity to our community regardless of past mistakes, status, or circumstance.

Staff members from the LCO Men’s Sober Living Facility, Emergency Shelter, and Bizhiki Wellness Center participated in this comprehensive training to become Certified Recovery Coaches. This certification will enhance their ability to serve as leaders in recovery support within the LCO community.

Rebecca Williams, Director of the LCO TNOAE program, emphasized the importance of the training: “The goal of this training is to create a response team that will support and provide resources for our sober living program participants as they progress through their recovery.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the LCO Tribal Governing Board, TNOAE, and Project Ventures for their generous contributions of gifts in appreciation for our guests’s time and effort in sharing his valuable knowledge with us. .
