LCO TGB Names Louis Traverzo as Interim Veterans Services Officer
Boozhoo Lac Courte Oreilles Community,
My name is Louis Bird Traverzo, a 27-year US Army veteran, and honored by the LCO Tribal Governing Board has entrusted me to serve as Interim Tribal Veterans Service Officer (TVSO) for the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe.
In this role, I will be working to support our veterans – the Warriors of our People – and their families by helping to connect with federal, state, and tribal benefits, as well as assisting with claims, services, and resources available to those who served. To be fully transparent, I am not “VSO Certified” (a fulltime six-month certification process), but I will assist in connecting our veterans with the County and Tribal VSOs that can directly assist them, and I will follow up to ensure resolution.
Currently, I am planning on freshening up the LCO Veterans Memorial area in front of Kinnamon School in the Spring and will solicit fellow LCO veterans to come join me in landscaping that hallowed ground. Additionally, I am contacting the Honor Flight Program to schedule a one-day trip to Washington DC for our eligible veterans and their escorts to tour the National Veteran Memorials, flying out of Duluth and back. Lastly, I am coordinating with certified VSO(s) to come to LCO and speak with our veterans on benefit programs on issues we need to know, as well as speak truth-to-power on eroding benefits. Looking at other veteran issues and community programs with more to come. I will provide an update at the Membership Meeting, on June 20, 2026, Casino Convention Center.
Our veterans represent a proud tradition of service, sacrifice, and leadership in our community – it is a privilege for me to support and advocate for them.
Please contact me at email: tribalveterans@lco-nsn.gov to discuss any veteran related issues…or simply to meet and chat!
Miigwech,
Louis Bird Traverzo
