Severe Weather School Closing Procedures
The School Administration, together with the Transportation Director, checks weather forecasts and road conditions in advance of closing school due to inclement weather. If the decision is made to cancel classes due to weather conditions, efforts will be made to notify parents and guardians as soon as possible.
School Cancellation:
The decision to cancel school based on current or forecasted weather will be made by 6:00am and will be based primarily on local road and weather conditions.
Early Closing:
If weather conditions become or are likely to become hazardous while school is in session, the decision to release students will be made, with at least 90 minutes of notice provided to parents and guardians. The Boys and Girls Club does not open in the event of an early closing of the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School.
Students will be sent home on their regular bus routes.
Delayed Opening:
The decision to delay opening the school will be based on current or forecasted weather conditions and will be made by 6:00am. School will be delayed by 2 hours with the following procedures:
- Staff are expected to report by 9:45am.
- Bus transportation will be 2 hours later than normal routes
- The building will not be open to students transported by parents/guardians un til 10:00am
- Breakfast will not be provided; lunch will be served on the regular schedule.
- Middle and High School classes will begin with the 3rd hour at 10:16.
- When school is closed for the day, it also means that school sponsored activities will also be canceled.
If conditions drastically improve during the day, extra-curricular activities may resume, in which case, announcements will be sent out.
