LAC COURTE OREILLES

Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe

The Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Governing Board (LCO TGB) is taking proactive steps to support community members affected by the delay in November SNAP (FoodShare) benefits resulting from the ongoing federal government shutdown.

In response to the FoodShare delay, the LCO TGB has established a committee to identify and implement solutions to ensure that families continue to have access to food during this challenging time. Current efforts include establishing:

  • A community food shelf
  • Soup kitchen/community dinners
  • Securing traditional foods such as venison, fish, wild rice, and maple syrup

Local food banks are already prepared and ready to support individuals and families during this time.

Additionally, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) announced that FoodShare benefits members may continue using any benefits already loaded on their QUEST cards—those funds will not be removed or affected.

Families receiving assistance through the LCO Food Distribution and WIC programs are not expected to experience disruptions at this time.

The LCO TGB is closely monitoring the situation and will continue to share updates as new information becomes available. Community members are encouraged to stay informed, as developments may occur with little notice.
