Position Summary

The Oshki-ojibwemowag Teacher Trainee is responsible for assisting in the delivery and safeguarding the
integrity of full-time Ojibwe language immersion instruction within the Oshki-ojibwemowag program. This
transitional position prepares Teacher Trainees to become Lead Instructors for adult language learners. The
Teacher Trainee plays a central role in rebuilding a critical mass of highly proficient Ojibwe speakers through
intensive immersion, mentorship, curriculum development, and intergenerational knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities

      • Performance Responsibilities:
      • 1. Engage in full-time daily Ojibwe language immersion.
      • 2. Assist in delivering and facilitating the Ojibwe language throughout the day.
      • 3. Assist in delivering structured lessons, conversations, and applied language activities.
      • 4. Assist in delivering natural Ojibwe-language environments outside the classroom
      • 5. Prepare to become a Lead Instructor for adult language learners.
      • 6. Maintain attendance, punctuality, and active participation.
      • 7. Perform periodic language proficiency assessments.
      • 8. Document measurable growth in learners’ speaking, comprehension, and cultural competency.
      • 9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

      • Qualifications:
      • 1. Demonstrated knowledge and practice of Ojibwe cultural traditions and protocols.
      • 2. At the minimum of Advanced low proficiency in the Ojibwe language (ACTFL).
      • 3. Experience teaching or mentoring in language or cultural settings.
      • 4. Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with students and the community.
      • 5. 2+ years of teaching experience.
      • 6. Curriculum development experience in an educational setting;
      • 7. Proficiency with computers and other advanced technology;
      • 8. Must pass a background check.
