Position Summary

The Oshki-ojibwemowag Lead Instructor is responsible for leading, delivering, and safeguarding the integrity
of full-time Ojibwe language immersion instruction within the Oshki-ojibwemowag program. This position
serves as the primary language authority for adult language learners and ensures cultural, linguistic, and
pedagogical excellence. The Lead Instructor plays a central role in rebuilding a critical mass of highly proficient
Ojibwe speakers through intensive immersion, mentorship, curriculum development, and intergenerational
knowledge transfer.

Key Responsibilities

    • Performance Responsibilities:

 

    • 1. Engage in full-time daily Ojibwe language immersion.

 

    • 2. Deliver and facilitate the Ojibwe language throughout the day.

 

    • 3. Develop and implement curriculum including structured lessons, conversations, and applied

 

    • language activities.

 

    • 4. Maintain natural Ojibwe-language environments outside the classroom

 

    • 5. Provide mentorship to Ojibwe language Teacher Trainee.

 

    • 6. Maintain attendance, punctuality, and active participation.

 

    • 7. Perform periodic language proficiency assessments.

 

    • 8. Document measurable growth in learners’ speaking, comprehension, and cultural competency.

 

    • 9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

    • Qualifications:

 

    • 1. High proficiency in Ojibwe language (advanced, superior, or distinguished—ACTFL).

 

    • 2. Demonstrated knowledge and practice of Ojibwe cultural traditions and protocols.

 

    • 3. Experience teaching or mentoring in language or cultural settings.

 

    • 4. Ability to work in a full-time immersion environment to deliver academic content.

 

    • 5. Bachelor’s degree from accredited university.

 

    • 6. 2+ years of experience teaching.

 

    • 7. Proficiency with computers and classroom technology.

 

    • 8. Highly developed oral and written communication skills

 

    • 9. Ability to build relationships effectively and professionally with students and community

 

    • 10. Experience developing and implementing a differentiated adult language immersion curriculum

 

    • 11. Physical ability to handle frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, and outdoor mobility

 

    • 12. Proven ability to maintain a safe and studious classroom environment
