Update to Cyber Incidents Investigation for LCO School
LAC COURTE OREILLES, Wis. – The LCO Police Department is providing an important update regarding the recent cyber incidents affecting LCO systems, staff, students, and families.
Account Activity Update:
As of this morning, LCO PD was informed by school officials/IT that additional accounts have been created, and previous fraudulent accounts have been reactivated. These actions were taken by the individual responsible for creating accounts. Law enforcement with assistance from the school continues to monitor activity closely.
Reporting Cybercrime through IC3:
If you believe you or your child may have been a victim of cybercrime related to this incident, including unauthorized account access, identity theft, phishing attempts, inappropriate posts, exploitation, or other suspicious online activity we strongly encourage you to file a report with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
How to File an IC3 Report:
- Visit https://www.ic3.gov
- Click on “File a Complaint.”
- Provide as much detail as possible, including:
- A description of the incident
- Dates and times of suspicious activity
- Email addresses, usernames, or accounts involved
- Copies or screenshots of suspicious emails or messages, if available
Submitting a report to IC3 assists law enforcement agencies in identifying patterns, supporting investigations, and preventing further cyber-related offenses. You do not need to know the identity of the individual involved to submit a complaint. You do not need to be the individual involved in the complaint and can report on behalf of someone else.
We are reminding families to monitor their children’s social media accounts and ensure privacy settings are enabled and are as restrictive as possible.
If you believe a crime is in progress or there is an immediate safety concern, please contact local law enforcement.
Additional updates will be provided as information becomes available. Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of the LCO community.
