On March 31, 2025, the Lac Courte Oreilles Tribal Governing Board (LCO TGB) convened to address several issues.

The meeting began with a presentation by Nita Kemp, Director of LCO Realty, who introduced two resolutions for a limited waiver of sovereign immunity concerning the Strahan and Aurora properties, which the Tribe intends to acquire. The board also approved two land leases and the cancellation of a lease for tribal members.

Barb Biller, Director of LCO Head Start/Early Head Start (HS-EHS), provided an update on federal funding received from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She announced the award of a new five-year grant to support the program and expressed her intent to apply for a low-cost extension (LCE) of the previous year’s grant funds. The extension would enable necessary improvements, including upgrades to the playground and electronic signage.

Gary “Lil Guy” Clause presented new applications and renewals for gaming licenses, all of which received unanimous approval from the TGB.

The board also ratified the Tribal Nation Opioid Abatement Efforts Grant Agreement, with Dorothy “Dottie” Crust assuming additional responsibilities related to the grants administration.

A proposed amendment to the Election Ordinance, which sought to remove the practice of drawing names from a hat to determine ballot order, was not approved by the TGB.

The Tribal Member Health Insurance Premium Assistance Policy will remain unchanged. However, due to funding regulations, a new policy will be established to expand the service area. This expansion will utilize a separate budget to assist tribal members residing just ourside of Sawyer County, aligning with the service area defined bu the PRC II program.

Lastly, the job postings for Little League coaching positions were approved to be posted.

The TGB went into Executive Session to continue work on sensitive and confidential matters.
