LAC COURTE OREILLES, Wis. – The Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) is required to make annual determinations of the performance for each BIE funded school in relation to students with disabilities pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act of 2004 (IDEA), specifically 20 U.S.C. § 1416(a)(1), and 34 C.F.R. § 300.600(a).
On August 11, the Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe School (LCOOS) received notice that the BIE determined they “Meet Requirements” (the highest rating on a 4-tier scale) of Part B of the IDEA. 34 C.F.R. § 300.604 for their (FFY) 2023 review.
“Special education programming and funding is the most highly scrutinized and regulated programming the BIE oversees,” said LCOOS Superintendent Jessica Hutchison. “I congratulate our Director of Special Education Christina Berens and her staff for the diligent work they all do to support the students at LCO.”
